Short Biography

Regina Weilhart, born in Munich, started her theatre career in the costume departments of the „Münchner Kammerspiele“ and Bayreuth Festival. After her studies she worked as cutter and costume maker in London a.o. for Bernardo Bertulucci’s „Little Buddha“, Franco Zeffirelli’s „Hamlet“ as well as „Howard’s End“ and „Remain of the Days“ by James Ivory. Since 1993 she was responsible for the woman’s costume workshop at the Opera de la Monnaie in Brussels. 1997 she became head of costumes at the Grand Théâtre de Genève, 1999 head of costumes at the Opera de Nice. In these companies she worked a.o. with Bob Wilson, Willy Decker and Francesca Zambello. 2007-2011 she worked in Berlin on costumes for the films „Buddenbrooks“, „Romy“, „Inglorious Basterds“ and „Hanna“.
As founding board member and treasurer she co-established in Vancouver 2004-2007 the humanitarian organisation „Lotus Outreach Society Canada“, which is supporting projects for prevention of child Prostitution. In this context she worked as well in a textile workshop in Phnom Penh. Till 2019 she was co-responsible for the costume department of the Aalto theatre, Essen. There she designed as well the costumes for Mozart’s opera „Titus“ and the ballet „Fétes des Plaisirs“.
She is now working freelance.
